LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's soccer team dropped a contest at home to the NACC favorite, Dominican University, in the closing seconds of overtime on Wednesday night.

Dominican 2, Benedictine 1 - OT
• An intense contest throughout, neither team scored in the opening 45 minutes of play
• Yair Ortega and
Paul Buch put attempts on goal in the first half but Dominican held an 8-5 edge in shots
• Dominican opened the scoring on the first chance of the second half, just over a minute into the half
• The goal came when Dominican forced
Antonio Marti Polo to commit, locating an opening
• Benedictine turned on the jets in the final 15 minutes of regulation
• Larry Meehan won a ball in the box and beat the keeper low left in the 77th minute to tie the game
• The goal was set up by a long ball from
Nick Kapetanos followed by a cross from
Aldreiron Smith
• Benedictine notched three shots in the final five minutes, but all were off target
• Santiago Beltran fired an attempt wide left in the 93rd minute
• The game-winner came following a through ball from Dominican into an open net in the final minute
• Dominican won the conference last year and is regionally ranked this season
• Both conference losses for Benedictine this season have come in overtime
• Benedictine held a 16-14 advantage in shots including a 10-5 margin in the second half
• Meehan and
Erik Stammer each tallied four shots
• Dominican doubled the corner kick opportunities at 8-4
• Marti Polo finished with two saves in a contest that featured over 40 combined fouls
