Frantic Finish Enables Women's Lacrosse to Set Record

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Two goals in the final minute enabled the Benedictine University women's lacrosse team to set a single season record for wins in a wild regular season finale.

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine trailed by as many as four goals in the opening 30 minutes of play
• Becca Thomas caused a turnover with just over a minute remaining to help Benedictine tie the score
• After moving the ball into the offensive zone, Emma Redfern set up Madison Horan for the tying goal with 49 seconds left
• Loras was able to win the ensuing draw, but Jasmine Moreno forced a turnover
• A pair of fouls set up a free position attempt in the closing seconds as Horan fed Redfern for the winner as time expired
• Moreno scored the first goal of the game less than 30 seconds into the game before Loras scored three straight
• Jackie Andrews broke the run with 24:23 left in the half but Loras scored three more to lead 6-2
• Horan found the back of the net with 16:03 remaining in the first and the remainder of the game was played within three goals or closer
• Becca Gullett scored with 2:32 to play in the first as the start of four consecutive goals, bringing Benedictine within 9-8 at the half
• Gullett tied the game in the first minute of the second half with her 51st goal of the season, setting a single season record
• Lexie Orr put Benedictine ahead for the first time since the opening minute with 27:13 left and struck again to finish the run at the 18:35 marker, giving Benedictine an 11-9 edge
• Loras scored five of the next seven goals to lead going into the final moments
• The win allowed Benedictine to finish .500 for the first time in program history

Loras held a 36-28 advantage in shots with Benedictine accumulating 14 in each half
• Both teams scooped 22 groundballs
• Hannah Smith stopped 14 shots in net
• Horan finished with four goals and an assist, adding four groundballs and six draw controls
• Gullett finished her career with three goals, three assists, six groundballs, five draw controls and four caused turnovers
• Redfern was able to find the back of the net three times as six different individuals scored
