Softball Wins NACC Tournament Championship

The Benedictine University softball team won the 2017 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship for the sixth time in the last seven years, defeating Concordia University Wisconsin 6-2 in Milwaukee, WI.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine came into the championship as the No. 1 seed and were undefeated in the tournament
• No. 2 Concordia-Wisconsin took the Eagles into extra innings in the first game, winning 6-4
• In the second game, Benedictine was the visiting team after losing the coin toss before the game
• Angie Malsack led off the second inning with a single up the middle and then tallied her 21st and 22nd steals of the year
• Kassee Johnson drove in Malsack with a sac fly
• Concordia responded in the bottom of the frame with a run off of two hits and one BenU error
• In the fourth, Emily Moore doubled down the left field line and scored on a Kelli Holstine grounder
• Already up 2-1 the Eagles extended their lead in the fifth
• Courtney Grasz and Holly Haberkorn singled to start the inning
• Selena Kweder connected for an RBI single and Malsack scored the final run of the inning on a sac fly
• The Falcons tallied a run in the fifth after three BenU errors
• With the 4-2 lead heading into the sixth Breanna Sobotka doubled to center field and advanced on a Holstine sac bunt
• Johnson homered to left field to score the final two runs of the game and secure the Eagles 6-2 win
• On the mound, Nicole Parney picked up her 10th win of the year

GAME ONE DETAILS
• For the second time this tournament the Eagles went into extra innings
• Concordia Wisconsin connected for 13 hits in the game, two of which came in the 8th inning where they scored two runs
• Kweder led off the bottom of the 8th with a homerun but the Eagles stranded two runners and lost 6-5
