Baseball Falls in Regular Season Finale

LISLE, IL - The University of Chicago scored four unearned runs to defeat the Benedictine University baseball team in the regular season finale under the lights on Tuesday.

THE DETAILS
•
Both teams used the opportunity to play a bulk of the roster
• Benedictine used a different pitcher in each of the nine innings
• Chicago opened a 1-0 lead with a two-out run in the top of the first
• Benedictine responded with three in the bottom of the frame
• Nick Severino and Tanner Kiser drew consecutive walks with one away
• Chayancze Stirbis tied the game with a double down the left field line
• Andrew Hotze followed with an RBI single to give Benedictine the lead and Sam Kerr finished the rally with a sacrifice fly
• Chicago came back to tie the game with a pair of unearned runs in the third and scored twice in the fourth to lead 5-3
• Jimmy McLaughlin floated a sacrifice fly to right to bring home D.J. Dillon in the fifth, drawing Benedictine within 5-4
• Chicago was able to tack on an insurance run in the eighth to account for the final
• The game served as senior night with 11 seniors honored before the game

• Benedictine managed just three hits in the game but drew six walks to go with three hit batters
• Counting the nine pitchers, 24 players appeared in the contest
• Jack Feeley drew two walks in the game and was also hit by a pitch, reaching base three times
• Ryan Miller, Cooper Murphy and Drake Berman also tallied perfect innings on the hill

Benedictine (23-16) will head into the conference tournament as the fourth seed, facing fifth-seeded Dominican University at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at Concordia Wisconsin.
