Women's Volleyball Wins First Game of the Season

The Benedictine University women's volleyball team picked up their first win of the season, a five-set thriller over Carroll University on Wednesday evening in Waukesha, WI.

• The Eagles trailed early in the first set and could never recover, falling 25-15
• Tied at 18 in the second set, Benedictine went on a 6-0 run to take the 25-20 win
• The Pioneers took a 12-6 lead in set three and never looked back, winning 25-21
• In the fourth set, Benedictine led 8-4 but allowed Carroll to go on a 6-0 run to regain the lead
• The Eagles quickly tied it and went on a 6-0 run of their own to take a 17-12 advantage
• Up 24-19, Carroll's offense caught fire, tallying five straight kills and a BenU error tied it up
• Both teams battled to the end but a Kendall Holmes ace gave BenU the 29-27 win to force a fifth set
• Benedictine took a 5-0 lead in the fifth set but could not hold on as Carroll tied it at eight
• The teams traded points but after a Claudia Schmidt ace and a Molly Stock kill, the Eagles momentum was too much for the Pioneers as they would go on to win 15-13

Benedictine women's volleyball (1-4) travels to Oshkosh, WI to compete in the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic this weekend. The Eagles take on St. Norbert College at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
