Eagles Take Down Undefeated CUW

The Benedictine University women's volleyball team kicked off the Homecoming weekend festivities with a 3-2 win over the first-place team in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, Concordia University Wisconsin.

THE DETAILS
• Concordia Wisconsin went on a 5-0 run to start the first set
• Benedictine battled back, taking the lead after five straight Chelsi Blair points
• Blair added two more aces later in the set to give BenU a 17-14 lead
• The Eagles offense caught fire, tallying 11 kills and just two errors for the 25-21 win
• In set two, Benedictine trailed again early
• Despite tying it at six after a Taylor Dunwell and Hannah Griffith block, CUW took the lead and never lost it as BenU fell 25-23
• A Molly Stock and Griffith block gave BenU a lead in the third set
• The teams battled back and forth but Benedictine held on to the lead, winning 25-23
• In the fourth set, CUW tallied five straight to take a 13-11 lead
• Benedictine battled and regained the lead after a Ryanne Ehrman ace and back-to-back Dunwell kills
• Tied at 25, the CUW offense caught fire, tallying two straight kills for the 27-25 win
• Forcing a fifth set, CUW tied the game at five
• The Eagles took an 11-9 lead after a Brooke Huizenga kill
• A Billie ace added another point and a Claudia Schmidt kill secured the Eagles win, 15-13
• As a team, Benedictine tallied 66 kills and hit .229 in the match
• Benedictine's win broke Concordia's 32-match NACC winning streak

Homecoming weekend continues for women's volleyball tomorrow afternoon. The Eagles, now 12-8 overall and 4-3 in NACC play, will host Milwaukee School of Engineering at 12:00 p.m. in the Rice Center. It's also Senior Day before the match.
