Women's Hoops Improves to 5-1

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Benedictine University women's basketball team capped the non-conference schedule with a road win over Lake Forest College by dominating the fourth quarter.

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine led for a majority of the first quarter and closed the opening 10 minutes with a 5-0 run on a layup from Alex Fanning and a triple from Claire Gibler to open a 17-10 edge
• Lake Forest opened the second quarter with a 7-0 spurt to tie the game
• Elisa Diorio and Allison Michalski answered with back-to-back layups to put Benedictine ahead 21-17
• The hosts scored five in a row to take the lead again, but Benedictine held a 26-24 lead at the half following a pair of free throws from MaKayli Vann
• Lake Forest held the lead for much of the third quarter before a late Benedictine push started to put the game away
• Trailing 40-36, D'Asia Williams opened a 7-0 run with two free throws and Benedictine led 47-42 heading into the final quarter
• A 14-0 run opened the fourth quarter to make for an 18-0 spurt as Benedictine opened a 61-42 lead on a layup from Fanning with 4:06 left
• Benedictine kept Lake Forest scoreless for almost eight minutes to seize the game
• The victory marked the third in a row for Benedictine

Benedictine held a 56-39 edge on the glass and posted 16 second-chance points while shooting 37.5 percent from the field
• The defense held Lake Forest to just 25.4 percent shooting for the game
• Fanning tallied a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds off the bench in 17 minutes of action
• Two other players reached double figures as Williams tacked on 14 and Michalski 13

Benedictine (5-1) will play only conference games the rest of the way and heads to Lakeland on Saturday afternoon.
