Men's Basketball Captures Defensive Struggle

LISLE, IL - Two free throws from Kyle Hornacek with 12 seconds left lifted the Benedictine University men's basketball team to a come from behind win over Illinois Tech.

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine led the entire first half, scoring the first six points of the game on two baskets from Eric Grygo around a Bryan Jakobsze jumper
• A late three-pointer from Kenny Bogus handed Benedictine the largest lead of the game at 27-20 with 2:33 left in the half
• Illinois Tech scored the final four points to battle within 27-24 at the half
• The visitors opened the second half with a 7-1 run to grab a 31-28 edge and led for almost the entire second half
• Illinois Tech went up by seven points at 41-34 with 11:34 left and held a 49-43 lead with 4:40 to go
• Bogus hit a three and a free throw from Jakobsze brought Benedictine within 49-47 at the 2:52 mark
• Down four with 1:37 remaining, Grygo made a jumper and Bogus a free throw to draw within 51-50
• Benedictine staved off a pair of attempts to extend the lead with 12 seconds to go before Hornacek was fouled after grabbing a rebound
• The sophomore calmly stepped to the line and buried both free throws
• The defense held off two attempts in the final second to score the win

Benedictine limited Illinois Tech to just 30.8 percent shooting while overcoming 29.1 percent incuding just 18.2 percent from three-point range and a 47-40 rebound deficit
• Bogus finished with 16 points and nine rebounds
• Jakobsze tallied 15 points and nine boards
• Kyle Graebner made the most of his first start, helping anchor a defensive effort against All-American Anthony Mosley, who finished just 3-for-13 with seven points
