Baseball Scores Another 5-4 Decision

AUBURNDALE, FL - The Benedictine University baseball team battled from behind again to tally a second consecutive win in Florida.

• Playing as the visitors, Lesley notched a pair of runs in the top of the first
• Benedictine instantly began to rally in the bottom of the frame, putting a single tally on the board
• Michael Chaffin, Jonathan Hodo and Jimmy McLaughlin all singled with one away to load the bases
• A passed ball with two outs enabled Chaffin to cross the plate with the first run
• Benedictine evened the game with a single run in the second
• Brenden Norberg singled and scored on a double steal with Kyle Mitter
• Lesley, conference champ and regional participant last year, scored an unearned run in the third to take a 3-2 edge
• Benedictine quickly tied the game in the bottom of the frame
• Hodo led off with a triple and scored on a groundout from McLaughlin
• Another double steal allowed Benedictine to take the lead in the sixth with Brandon Gipson coming across
• Mitter recorded an RBI single to make the lead 5-3
• Marty Maves finished out the win for his third save of the year, working around a leadoff homer in the ninth

• Ivan Guzman allowed just one earned run in six innings to pick up the win, striking out five
• Chad DeGroot held the lead with 1.1 scoreless frames before Maves threw the final 1.2
• Benedictine banged out 10 hits in the game while accumulating six steals
• Chaffin, Hodo, Jack Surin and Mitter all notched two hits
