AUBURNDALE, FL - The Benedictine University baseball team dropped a contest between two of the hottest teams in the nation in Florida on Thursday afternoon

Benedictine 5, Bowdoin 3
• Bowdoin grabbed a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the first against Benedictine starter

• Bowdoin built a 2-0 lead with another run in the fourth
• Benedictine chopped into the deficit with a run in the top of the sixth
• Kyle Mitter singled with one out and scored on a subsequent double from
Jonathan Hodo
• Bowdoin immediately answered in the bottom of the inning, pushing the lead to 3-1
• Benedictine was able to tie the game with two in the seventh, loading the bases without a hit to chase the starter
• Mitter knocked home a run with a fielder's choice and
Brenden Norberg scored the tying run on a wild pitch
• Single runs in the eighth and ninth allowed Benedictine to lead for the first time and come away with the decision
• Michael Chaffin opened the eighth with a walk, stole second and crossed on an RBI single from
Sam Kerr
• Norberg walked with one out in the ninth, was sacrificed to second and came around on a single from Hodo
• Benedictine is now 6-2 on the trip and will come home with a winning record regardless of the outcome of the final two games this weekend
• Benedictine has come from behind in four of the victories
• Guzman did not factor in the decision but allowed just two earned runs in six innings while striking out five
• Chad DeGroot collected the win by working the seventh
• Marty Maves posted his fourth save of the trip and fifth of the season by working the final two frames, striking out a pair
• Benedictine finished with seven hits, three of which came from Kerr
• Hodo added a pair of hits to go with two RBIs while Chaffin walked twice

Benedictine (7-3) takes on the University of St. Thomas on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Central as the trip reaches the final weekend.
