Baseball Rallies to First Win

SAUGET, IL - The Benedictine University baseball team continued a season opening stint in the St. Louis area by rallying to the first win of the year

• North Park scored a pair of runs in the top of the first with two outs
• James Wright settled down and did not allow another run the rest of the way
• Benedictine did not score in the bottom of the frame, but placed runners on base
• Benedictine put on pressure through the game, placing runners on base in seven of the eight visits to the plate
• Benedictine stranded the bases loaded in the second inning but finally broke through in the fifth, scoring all three runs
• Kyle Mitter led off the fifth with a walk and Jonathan Hodo followed with a single
• Jimmy McLaughlin turned the tide of the game with one swing, drilling the first pitch of his at bat over the wall in right for a go-ahead three-run homer
• North Park had just one runner reach scoring position the remainder of the contest
• The game was played at GCS Credit Union Ballpark, where Webster University plays home games

• Wright worked five innings in his first start of the season to earn the win, allowing just the two runs in the first inning
• Wright struck out four and surrendered three hits along with four walks
• Alexander Schram bridged the gap with two scoreless innings, striking out four
• Marty Maves closed out the win for his first save, striking out three in two blank innings as the pitching staff fanned 11 in the game
• Benedictine finished with nine hits while limiting North Park to just five
• Jack Surin paced the offense with three hits, including a double
• McLaughlin and Hodo tallied two apiece
• Mitter reached three times with a hit and two walks
