Softball Advances to NACC Tournament Championship

The Benedictine University softball team won their second game of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament to advance to the Championship on Saturday after defeating Concordia University Chicago 10-9.

• The Eagles beat #3 Aurora on Thursday to face the Cougars today
• Angie Malsack led off the first inning for the Eagles with a double to left and later scored on an error by the pitcher
• Benedictine took a 2-0 lead in the second after a Kaitlyn Velazquez double, scoring on a Breanna Sobotka groundout
• In the third, Concordia tied it with three hits in the inning
• The Eagles tallied six runs off of five hits in the fourth to take an 8-2 lead
• The inning included two homers from Malsack and Emily Chitwood
• The Concordia offense did not quit, cutting their deficit in the sixth with four more runs off of four hits and two BenU errors
• Benedictine took a 10-6 lead in the sixth with RBI singles from Chitwood and Elena Sakellaropoulos
• The seventh inning took a scary turn for the Eagles when CUC tallied two homeruns and came within one run
• Chitwood came in to pitch in relief, striking out two batters to pick up her first save and give BenU the 10-9 win to push them into championship Saturday

Benedictine will face the winner of the #3 Aurora and #4 Concordia Chicago game. The Eagles play at 11:00 am in Milwaukee, WI and if they win, they are the NACC Tournament Champions. If they lose, they will be forced to play another game at 1:00 pm which will determine the champion.
