Men's Soccer Falls to Dominican

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's soccer team dropped a home contest with one of two unbeatens in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

FINAL SCORE
Dominican 3, Benedictine 1

THE DETAILS
•
Both teams traded chances early in what has become an annual battle amongst two of the top programs in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference
• Dominican produced the first chance in the fourth minute before Lukasz Sulka countered
• Both attempts were wide
• Dominican broke away following a free kick to net the first goal on a serve down the left sideline into a cross that was knocked into a wide open goal following a secondary pass
• The visitors held a 9-3 edge in shots during the opening 45 minutes, putting four on goal
• The first shot on goal of the night for Benedictine resulted in the equalizer
• Lukasz Sulka had an attempt blocked but the clearance attempt came back to him and a shot from the top left of the box through traffic bounced off the keeper into the net for his eighth of the year in the 55th minute
• The tie was short-lived as Dominican countered just over a minute later as a free kick from 35 yards out was sent from the left into the box and headed off the hands of Martin Jimenez-Estrada in the 56th minute
• Dominican was denied by Jimenez-Estrada on a penalty kick in the 60th minute but was handed another opportunity moments later with a free kick from the top of the box that was sent in to pad the lead to 3-1
• The third goal completely changed the landscape of the contest and Benedictine was able to mount little else on offense
• Dominican held a 15-6 advantage in shots with eight on goal
• Jimenez-Estrada recorded five saves in net for Benedictine
