Schram and Baseball Blank UW-La Crosse

AUBURNDALE, FL - The Benedictine University baseball team used seven shutout innings from Alexander Schram to blank nation power UW-La Crosse on Monday in Florida.

FINAL SCORE
Benedictine 1, UW-La Crosse 0

THE DETAILS
•
Both pitchers allowed little to nothing on the offensive side, matching zeroes on the board
• UW-La Crosse, a perennial power in the WIAC, placed runners on base in the first two innings and had a runner in scoring position in the second but couldn't break through against Schram
• Schram retired nine in a row from the second through the fifth and left the bases loaded in the fifth before sitting down the final seven batters faced
• Benedictine did not record a hit until Brenden Norberg singled to open the fourth
• The game's only run scored in the bottom of the seventh
• Benedictine, playing as the home team, received a leadoff single from Jack Feeley, who was promptly sacrificed up to second base
• The only run scored on a double steal with Feeley crossing when pinch runner Michael Santarelli swiped second base
• Marty Maves proceeded to earn the save by working the final two frames, leaving the tying run at second in the eighth

STAT LEADERS
•
Schram tossed seven innings and allowed just four hits and only three runners to reach scoring position
• Both teams combined for just eight hits
• Feeley, Norberg and Kyle Mitter tallied hits for Benedictine
• Maves earned his second save in as many days, striking out a pair

UP NEXT
Benedictine (4-4) is off on Tuesday before taking on Anderson University as the spring trip continues Wednesday in Florida.
