Men's Volleyball Wins NACC Regular Season Title

The #8 Benedictine men's volleyball team won their second straight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference regular season title after beating #12 Milwaukee School of Engineering in four sets on Saturday afternoon in the Dan and Ada Rice Center.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine celebrated the careers of the five seniors before the match: Jonathan Valentini, Josh Moua, Adriel Rivas, Kyle VanStedum and Jeff Spagnolo
• Despite missing five serves in the first set, Benedictine went on a 4-0 run on the serve of Chase Olson to take a 16-12 lead
• The Eagles tallied 14 kills and hit .600 for the 25-17 win
• In set two, BenU trailed for most of the set, finally tying it at 24 with an Elijah Medlock kill
Nick Malak tallied three kills down the stretch to help the Eagles to a 30-28 win
• Set three only saw one lead change as MSOE led the entire set
• The Raiders hit .333 and Benedictine hit .429 but the Eagles had four costly service errors, falling 25-23
• Benedictine took an 8-6 lead after a Chase Olson solo block, giving BenU the momentum
• An Elijah Medlock kill gave BenU set point, but MSOE fought back, tallying four straight to come within three
• Benedictine would win the match on an MSOE error
• As a team, Benedictine had 57 kills (.354), 38 digs and 7.5 blocks
• Malak tallied a game, season and career high 23 kills with a .409 attack percentage

UP NEXT
Benedictine men's volleyball, now 22-3 on the year, are not able to compete in the NACC Tournament Championship. The Eagles will patiently wait to see if they will receive one of two at-large bids to the 2019 NCAA DIII Men's Volleyball Championship. The selection show will take place on Monday, April 15. More information will be available next week.
