Bats Come to Life as Baseball Salvages Split

MEQUON, WI - The Benedictine University baseball team salvaged a split with Concordia Wisconsin, bouncing back to win the second game after a tough loss in the opener.

CONCORDIA WISCONSIN 2, BENEDICTINE 1
• The first two batters of the game reached base for Concordia Wisconsin against Benedictine starter Alexander Schram
• A double steal allowed the runners to move before a ground out plated the first run
• A pair of doubles in the bottom of the second made the score 2-0 in favor of the hosts
• Benedictine did not record a hit until the fifth inning and finally broke through with a run in the eighth
• Three consecutive singles from Logan Shepard, Chase Patterson and Kyle Mitter loaded the bases
• Michael Chaffin lifted a sacrifice fly to score the only run as Benedictine left runners at second and third

GAME ONE STAT LEADERS

Schram suffered the loss despite allowing just the two runs, tossing seven innings while surrendering six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts
• Ty Liaromatis faced the minimum with a strikeout in an inning of relief
• Five different individuals posted hits for Benedictine

Game two was a stark contrast from the opener with Benedictine scoring in each of the first five frames
• Benedictine built an 8-0 lead, scoring twice in the first before a six-spot in the second
• Mitter reached on an error to begin the game and scored on a double from Jack Feeley
• Feeley stole third and crossed the plate when Damen Castillo grounded out
• The second inning began with four in a row reaching base
• Cameron Falk and Jimmy McLaughlin opened with singles before Jack Surin was hit by a pitch
• Patterson followed with a two-run double to extend the lead to 4-0
• The third run scored on a passed ball before RBI singles from Feeley and Castillo
• The final run of the inning scored on an error
• Concordia Wisconsin came back with four runs in the bottom of the second but Benedictine answered in the third with an RBI single from Feeley
• Tyler Woynerowski opened a two-run fourth with a double, stealing third and crossing on a triple from McLaughlin, who would score later on a Patterson sacrifice fly

GAME TWO STAT LEADERS

Stephen Sewruk earned the win, improving to 4-0 by working five innings on the mound
• Drake Berman threw two innings, Ryan Litavecz tossed the eighth, and Marty Maves shut the door
• The pitching staff recorded just one strikeout in the contest
• Feeley and McLaughlin each picked up four hits as Benedictine finished with 14
• Both individuals also drove home three along with Patterson
