DUBUQUE, IOWA - The Benedictine University football team lost for the first time this season to Loras College on the road 42-14 after allowing 28 points in the second half.
The defenses set the tone in the first half. Loras was able to open the scoring on a big play when a receiver broke free for a 48-yard score on their first offensive possession. Neither team scored again until
Tyler Jarnagin was sacked and lost the ball midway through the second. Loras picked up the fumble and returned it 25 yards to make the score 14-0.
Benedictine was able to take advantage of a short field just before the half as a result of an interception from
Marquan Limehouse and cut into the deficit when
Tyler Jarnagin scored on a two-yard run. Loras pulled away in the second half to run to the victory. The final Benedictine points of the contest came when
Alex Lopez reeled in a nine-yard touchdown with 3:14 left.
Dylan Leschewski hauled in 10 passes for 64 yards. Jarnagin completed 22 passes for 170 yards. Benedictine managed just 263 yards of offense while Loras racked up 445 yards.
Tysen Noble led the ground game with 44 yards, averaging 5.5 yards per carry.
Calvin Jordan paced the defense with eight tackles while
Scottie Bobeck,
Keenon Davis and
Kaiden O'Connor all recorded seven stops.
Benedictine (1-1) travels to Oliver College next week.
