LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's soccer team did not waste any time in opening the home slate with a win over visiting Marian to improve to 2-0 in conference play.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine opened the scoring in the first minute of play
• Taking away the opening kickoff,
Andrew Leon broke free to drive home a double feed from
Hayden Van Son and
Lukasz Sulka in a tic-tac-toe to grab the lead
• Marian was able to settle down and keep Benedictine off the board until late in the half
• Mike Bassier kicked home a rebound of a
Michael Alemu shot attempt into a wide open net in the 42nd minute to make the score 2-0
• Less than two minutes later Benedictine mounted a counter attack from a Marian shot to grab a 3-0 lead on a breakaway when
George Omondi-Soipan sprinted ahead following a touch pass from Alemu
• Marian scored their only goal early in the second half
• Martin Jimenez-Estrada made a save and punted the ball off a Marian player with the deflection bouncing into an open goal
• A minute later
Benny Masi converted on a penalty kick to make the score 4-1
• Leon struck again in the 72nd minute to cap the scoring
• Benedictine held a 17-9 edge in shots with 12 on target
• Jimenez-Estrada finished with four saves in net
