Women's Hoops Grinds Out Fifth Straight

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University women's basketball team grinded out a home win over MSOE to remain unbeaten in the conference.

THE DETAILS
•
MSOE never led in the contest but succeeded in slowing down the pace of the game
• Two free throws from Britney Pitzer put Benedictine ahead 9-4 with 6:38 left in the opening quarter, but Benedictine did not score again in the frame, struggling from the field as MSOE tied the score heading to the second
• Pitzer knocked down a three-pointer midway through the second to enable Benedictine to lead 16-0 and moments later Claire Gibler completed a three-point play as Benedictine led 19-12
• The lead reached eight on a late three-pointer from Pitzer but MSOE cut the deficit down to three late in the half and Benedictine held a 23-19 lead at the break
• Alex Fanning opened the second half with a layup but MSOE responded with six in a row to tie the score at the 7:18 mark of the third
• Gibler proceeded to open a 9-0 run to close the quarter as Benedictine led 34-25 following a layup from Brianna Lake
• Benedictine led by double digits in the fourth quarter on a free throw from Allison Michalski and went on to lead by 19 points at 50-31 on a three-pointer from Reggie Much with 4:05 left
• Benedictine cleared the bench and did not score again as MSOE ended the game on a 10-0 run to account for the final
• The win marked a fifth in a row for Benedictine and a 21st straight at home
• The contest was the middle game of a three-game week

STAT LEADERS
•
Benedictine shot just 33 percent in the second lowest showing of the season, amassing the second fewest points in a game and the third fewest points in the first half
• Michalski paced Benedictine with 14 points while Fanning added another double-double, amassing 11 points and 12 rebounds to go with three blocks and two steals
• Pitzer also reached double figures, notching 10
• Benedictine scored 24 points in the paint and notched 18 points off 23 turnovers from MSOE

UP NEXT
Benedictine (12-2, 9-0 NACC) remains the only unbeaten team in the NACC and will head on the road for a tough test on Saturday at upstart Edgewood, who is sitting 8-1 in the conference
