Men's Basketball Nipped by #6 Wheaton

WHEATON, IL - The Benedictine University men's basketball team went toe-to-toe with #6 Wheaton on Wednesday night.

THE DETAILS

Benedictine led for nearly the entire first half of play
- A three-pointer from Trevor Montiel put Benedictine ahead 7-5 with 17:46 to go in the opening half as part of an 11-0 run
- Michael Johnson drained a three to cap the run as Benedictine led 13-5 less than five minutes into the contest
- Benedictine led 19-9 on a triple from Andrew Ambrosio
- Still in front 36-29 with 4:59 remaining on a layup from Marvin Agwomoh
- Wheaton came all the way back to lead 39-38 in the final minute before Nick Kosich drained a three at the buzzer to make the score 41-39
- Cade Ellingson knocked down a three-pointer to put Benedictine ahead 46-39 in the first minute of the second
- Wheaton grabbed the lead at 55-54 with 14:14 to go and led for the remainder of the game
- Johnson drove into the lane to make a layup that brought Benedictine within 70-69 with 5:44 remaining
- Johnson tied the game with a pair of free throws with 2:37 left
- Wheaton jumped ahead by four again before Montiel made a layup with six seconds to go and after a missed free throw Johnson missed a three for the win

Benedictine led for over 23 minutes in the contest but Wheaton was +12 on the glass
- Benedictine finished the game shooting 46.3 percent; The team made nine threes in the first half but just one in the second
- Montiel finished with a game high 26 points
- Agwomoh notched 17 points while Johnson finished with 14 and Kosich 12
