Women's Hoops Streaks to Win in Conference Opener

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University women's basketball team did not trail in opening conference play with a home win over Dominican.

THE DETAILS
•
Britney Pitzer opened the scoring with a three-pointer after a slow start from both teams at the 7:42 mark
• Claire Gibler opened a career game with a jumper and Hanna Piro added two free throws as Benedictine jumped to a 7-0 lead with 6:53 remaining in the opening quarter
• Dominican pulled within three at 9-6 before Benedictine notched nine straight to lead 18-6 with Gibler scoring the first seven points and Brianna Lake adding two
• Benedictine led 20-11 after the first and opened a 31-17 lead midway through the second on a jumper from Alex Fanning
• Holding a nine-point lead at halftime, Benedictine came out strong to open the third, scoring the first 10 points to move ahead 43-24
• Fanning tallied five points in the run with Gibler notching a three and Brilan McCory posting a pair of free throws
• Dominican pulled within 13 before Benedictine closed the quarter with six straight on two from Lake and four from Fanning to lead 54-35 headed to the final 10
• The lead reached 26 in the final 10 minutes as Benedictine rolled to a second straight

Benedictine held Dominican to under 20 percent shooting in the contest and finished +19 on the glass with 18 offensive boards that led to 20 second chance points
• Gibler finished with 24 points and 14 rebounds, both career highs
• Fanning notched her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and 19 rebounds, one off her career high
• Fanning also added five assists and two blocks
• Fanning leads the conference in rebounding while Gibler sits fifth in scoring
• Nine players scored for Benedictine and the entire roster saw the floor in the win
