Women's Hoops Pulls Away in Fourth Quarter

MILWAUKEE, WI - The Benedictine University women's basketball team scored more points in the final 10 minutes than the previous 30 to pull away from MSOE and score a conference road win.

THE DETAILS

Both teams struggled to make shots throughout the first half
- Benedictine fell behind 4-1 in the opening quarter but led 12-10 at the end of the first
- MSOE scored the first four points of the second quarter to move ahead 14-12 before the tea,s slowed down again
- The hosts led 18-15 at the half and led by four early in the third quarter before Brilan McCory opened a 7-0 run as Benedictine led 24-21
- Hanna Piro hit a three in the final moments of the quarter to send the game to the fourth even at 27
- A pair of free throws from Britney Pitzer with 7:52 left opened an 8-0 run as Benedictine opened a 37-31 lead
- McCory scored the first five points of a 9-0 run finished on a layup from Alex Fanning with 3:01 left as Benedictine opened a double-digit lead at 46-34
- Benedictine went on to lead by as many as 15 points in grabbing the win, scoring 28 points in the fourth

Benedictine made only one field goal in the second quarter and three in the third but shot 55.5 percent in the fourth to finish at 33.3 percent
- Benedictine finished +14 on the glass at 45-31
- Benedictine shot just 16 percent from behind the arc as the team continues to struggle from long range
- Benedictine was 13-of-15 at the line
- McCory was the only player from either side to reach double digits, netting 21 with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals
- Fanning notched nine points to go with 14 rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists
- Pitzer logged nine points with eight boards
