Second Half Powers Men's Hoops to Non-Conference Win

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's basketball team scored 50 points in the second half and erased a 12-point deficit to score a home non-conference victory over Wabash.

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine scored the first points of the game on a Chris Hester from jumper, one of the only first half leads for the hosts
• Leading by a point midway through the first half Wabash used a 9-0 run to open a double-digit advantage at 22-12 as Benedictine went cold from the field
• Wabash led 29-17 with 3:10 left in the half
• Benedictine pulled within five at 29-24 with just under two minutes left in the first on a basket from Anthony Lynch following a turnover and trailed 31-26 at the break
• The visitors scored the first four points of the second half and led by nine before a 7-0 spurt from Benedictine keyed by a three-pointer from Nick Kosich cut the deficit down to just two points at 37-35 with 15:31 remaining
• Kosich tied the game at 40 with another three-pointer at the 13:03 mark
• Marvin Agwomoh gave Benedictine their first lead since early in the opening half with a dunk
• Agwomoh added an exclamation point with a one-handed slam to make the score 46-42 with 11:29 to play
• The second dunk was part of a 9-0 run that made the score 51-42 at the halfway point of the second
• Cade Ellingson splashed home a three-pointer to kick off a 10-0 run that turned the game into a 63-46 edge with just over six minutes left
• Wabash drew within 10 with 2:51 left before a three from Trevor Montiel helped to ice the win as Benedictine scored the final seven points

After shooting just 32 percent in the first half, Benedictine scorched the nets at 60 percent in the second half and connected on six three-pointers
• Wabash tuned the ball over just 14 times, but Benedictine produced 16 points off the miscues
• The defense held Wabash to just 31 percent in the second half and 38.6 percent for the game
• Benedictine is one of the top defenses in the nation this season
• Kosich led four players in double figures with 13 points with Hester and Agwomoh tallying 12
• Ellingson notched 10 off the bench as the reserves scored 34 points
• Montiel grabbed 11 rebounds as Benedictine finished +6 on the glass

UP NEXT
Benedictine (6-2) is off from conference play this weekend and will play at Lake Forest on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in another non-conference contest.
