Baseball Drops Opener of NACC Tournament

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University baseball team dropped a back-and-forth contest to third-seeded Illinois Tech to open the NACC South Division Tournament.

THE DETAILS
•
Benedictine grabbed an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning
• Ryan Doubek opened the game by drawing a four-pitch walk
• Jack Surin delivered a double to deep center, scoring Doubek from first
• Kevin Bushnell walked and Cameron Falk was hit by a pitch to laod the bases with one out
• Anthony Lenza recorded a run-scoring single to make the score 2-0
• Illinois Tech started the back-and-forth nature by scoring four times in the third
• Benedictine evened the game in the fifth when Doubek doubled and scored on a single by Surin
• Falk tied the game with a two-out double to center
• The visitors scored twice in the top of the sixth to open a 6-4 lead
• Benedictine was again able to tie the game in the bottom of the inning
• Kyle Mitter walked with two outs and Doubek singled before Surin plated another run with a single
• Bushnell evened the game with an RBI single
• Illinois Tech scored twice in the eighth and Benedictine left the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning
• The first two batters of the bottom of the ninth reached base and Brendan Norberg drove home a run with a groundout but Benedictine stranded the tying run at third
