LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University baseball team dropped a conference series for the first time this year after being swept by Illinois Tech on Sunday.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine opened the scoring in the first game with two outs when
Damen Castillo doubled and scored on an RBI single from
Kevin Bushnell
• Illinois Tech took the lead with three runs in the third but a sacrifice fly from
Jack Surin brought Benedictine within 3-2
• The visitors scored twice in the top of the fourth to lead 5-2 before Benedictine tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the inning
• Bushnell hit a solo homer,
Alex Cameron doubled home a run and
Kyle Mitter added an RBI single
• Illinois Tech would take the lead again with three in the fifth before a two-run homer from Bushnell pulled Benedictine within 8-7
• The final two innings brought plenty of drama with Illinois Tech opening a 12-7 edge with four in the eighth before a three-run homer from
Cameron Falk sliced the deficit to 12-10
• The visitors tacked on two more in the top of the ninth before Benedictine loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning
• Bushnell and Falk were both hit by a pitch to force home runs and another came in on a double play, but the tying run was left at third
• The second game saw Illinois Tech score four runs just four batters into the game and lead the whole way
• Benedictine scored two in the bottom of the first on a single from Bushnell but stranded the bases loaded
• Illinois Tech gained distance in the middle innings, scoring twice in the fourth, three times in the fifth and twice in the sixth to work around an RBI single from Castillo in the fifth and a wild pitch leading to a run in the sixth
• Illinois Tech added three more in the eighth to account for the final
STAT LEADERS
• Benedictine finished with 13 hits in the opener as four players totaled multiple hits
• Bushnell homered twice to take the conference lead, scored three times, finished with three hits and drove home five runs
• Castillo also amassed three hits while Falk drove home four
• Alex Schram started and worked 3.1 innings
• Simon Herold took the loss, throwing 2.2 innings of relief
• Benedictine posted double-digit hits again in the second contest, finishing with 10
• Surin notched three hits while Bushnell drove home two more, passing Castillo for the conference lead
• Drake Berman started the second contest and worked four innings while
Jackson Bahn came on to throw the final four frames
