Baseball Swaps Shutouts with Aurora

AURORA, IL - The Benedictine University baseball team split a pair of shutouts with seventh-ranked Aurora on the road on Saturday.

THE DETAILS - GM 1
- Both starting pitchers were in control early
- Benedictine had a good early chance but stranded runners when Ryan Doubek lined into a double play in the top of the third
- Aurora scored three runs on just one hit in the bottom of the inning to take the lead
- Aurora broke the game open with five runs in the fourth
- Benedictine did not record a hit until Nic Presutti singled to center in the fifth
- The hosts accounted for the final with a single run in the fifth

Benedictine managed just four hits in the opener, all coming from different individuals
- Ryan Renken suffered the loss, allowing five earned runs in 3.2 innings of work
- Jackson Bahn logged 1.1 innings of relief with Brock Bevil tossing two scoreless frames

Benedictine scored their first run of the day in the top of the first to grab an early lead in the second contest
- Doubek led off the game with a single, stole second and moved to third on a balk
- Damen Castillo put Benedictine in front after a lengthy at bat with a single up the middle to knock in Doubek
- Benedictine added single runs in the fourth and fifth to make the score 3-0
- Kevin Bushnell throttled a solo homer in the fourth to add to his conference leading total and an error allowed the other run to score
- The longball helped Benedictine put the game away as Jack Suring mashed a two-run blast in the ninth to account for the final

Justin Sosa threw seven shutout innings, striking out seven while allowing just two hits
- Simon Herold threw the final two frames to pick up the save
- The second contest saw Benedictine finish with 11 hits
- Anthony Lenza logged three hits while Doubek and Bushnell each posted a pair
