THE DETAILS
•
Elmhurst led for much of the opening set but Benedictine would not go away
• Yngride JeanPhillipe opened a stretch of three consecutive points late to tie the score at 24 but Elmhurst notched the next two to win
• Benedictine again battled in the second, tying the score at 13-13 on consecutive kills from Kaitlyn Estopare and Hannah Griffith and again at 17-17 on a kill from Carolin O'Connor, but with Benedictine clawing within 23-22, Elmhurst tallied the final two
• Benedictine led for a lot of the third, using kills from Estopare and Brooke Huizenga to open a 15-10 edge
• Elmhurst slowly chipped away and scored four straight when down 20-19 to open the lead before closing out the contest
• Lake Forest swept Benedictine last week, but the second meeting was a different story
• After falling behind 3-0 in the first set, Benedictine ripped off eight straight points to seize command and did not trail again, ending the set with a kill from Estopare
• Benedictine would not trail in the second either, utilizing five straight which included three kills from JeanPhillipe to open an 18-8 edge
• There was a lot of back-and-forth in the third, but Jamie Janczak notched a key ace to help Benedictine post three points late and grab the victory
