Women's Basketball Falls in Final Seconds

DE PERE, WI - St. Norbert made a pair of free throws in the final seconds to upend the Benedictine University women's basketball team in Wisconsin.

THE DETAILS

The first points of the contest did not come until the opening quarter was over halfway finished
- St. Norbert led 8-3 after the first 10 minutes
- The hosts opened an 11-point lead at 17-6 with a three-point play halfway through the second
- Claire Gibler scored four straight points and Alex Fanning added a layup as Benedictine drew within 17-12 at the 3:17 mark and whittled the lead down to four on three occasions but St. Norbert took a 25-19 lead into the half
- The hosts opened the third quarter with six straight points to again lead by double figures at 31-19
- Fanning scored eight straight as Benedictine pulled within 31-27 with 4:37 left in the third
- Brilan McCory knocked down a three, Hanna Piro dropped in a layup and Charsan McCory a free throw as Benedictine tied the game at 33-33 after three
- St. Norbert moved ahead 44-37 midway through the fourth
- Benedictine came back with eight straight, taking the lead for the first time at 45-44 with 3:01 remaining on a three-pointer from Britney Pitzer
- Fanning put Benedictine up 47-46 with two minutes left but missed two shots and two free throws along with a turnover that allowed the hosts to steal the win

Benedictine shot just 10 percent in the first quarter but finished the game at 38 percent while holding St. Norbert to 35 percent
- Benedictine was just 4-of-13 at the line and only 5-for-26 from beyond the arc
- Fanning just missed a triple-double, finishing with 16 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks
- Pitzer was the only other player to reach double figures, notching 12
