Men's Hoops Holds On for Senior Day Win

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's basketball team is part of havoc at the top of the conference entering the final game of the year after holding off Lakeland behind a big second-half run to win on senior day.

THE DETAILS
- Benedictine came out strong and led for almost the entire first half
- Consecutive baskets from Trevor Montiel handed Benedictine a double-digit lead at 26-16 with 8:26 remaining in the first half
- Collin Mergl hit a three at the 4:28 mark to make the score 34-23 and Benedictine led 37-31 at the half
- Lakeland stormed out of the gates to open the second half, taking the lead at 39-38 with 15:36 to play
- A three with 10:46 left handed Lakeland a 52-47 edge
- Benedictine quickly tied the game on a three from Nate Shead and a basket from Nick Kosich
- Benedictine proceeded to embark on an 18-3 run to open a double-digit edge at 65-55 with 1:55 left on a layup from Marvin Agwomoh
- Lakeland immediately scored seven straight to pull within three points in the final minute, but Benedictine held on for the victory
- The contest featured five ties and nine lead changes
- Prior to the game Mergl, Michael Johnson, Mason Sobiesk and Shead were honored

- Benedictine shot 44.6 percent in the contest and overcame 12 threes from Lakeland
- Benedictine held a commanding 48-29 advantage on the glass
- Montiel led Benedictine with 14 points, adding eight rebounds
- Johnson notched 10 points to go with seven boards and five assists
- Kosich reeled in 13 rebounds

Benedictine (11-11, 10-6 NACC) travels to Illinois Tech on Wednesday with nine teams separated by just one loss in the conference standings. The top three will receive a bye.
