Baseball Shuts Down Elmhurst

WINTER HAVEN, FL - The Benedictine University baseball team won a second consecutive contest in Florida, shutting down Elmhurst.

THE DETAILS

Justin Sosa was dominating on the mound, striking out four in the first two innings
- Benedictine staked Sosa a 1-0 lead in the third
- Jack Carlson and Ryan Doubek singled while Chase Hanselman walked with two outs to load the bases
- Kevin Bushnell opened the scoring with an RBI single
- Three runs scored in the fifth to break the game open
- Bushnell delivered again, singling up the middle to score two runs
- Cameron Falk lifted a sacrifice fly to score Bushnell, making the score 4-0
- Benedictine poured it on by scoring three in the eighth and four in the ninth
- Anthony Lenza, Carlson and Doubek all drove home runs in the eighth
- Alex Cameron singled home a run in the ninth while Lenza doubled home two and Carlson added an RBI single

Sosa threw six shutout innings to win his second contest of the year, allowing just four hits with two walks and nine strikeouts
- The pitching staff struck out 16 in the game with Simon Herold fanning four in two innings and Andrew Tenison struck out the side in the ninth
- Benedictine tallied 16 hits in the win
- Eight different players collected a hit with six picking up more than one
- Bushnell drove home three and notched three hits
- Carlson also finished with three hits, knocking in two
- Lenza did not start but posted two hits and three RBIs
