Big Inning Helps Baseball Sweep #21 Aurora

LISLE, IL - A pair of big innings helped the Benedictine University baseball team sweep #21 Aurora and take over first place in the NACC.

GAME ONE DETAILS
•
Benedictine led for a majority of the doubleheader, taking the lead with two outs in the bottom of the first
• Andrew Tenison recorded a two-out RBI single to plate Peter Turelli as Benedictine opened the scoring
• The game broke open with five two-out runs in the second
• Turelli tallied a two-run double to make the score 3-0 and Damen Castillo followed with an RBI single
• Tenison made it 6-0 with a two-run single
• Leading 6-1, Benedictine added insurance with single runs in the sixth and seventh
• Turelli plated Ryan Doubek with a double to left in the sixth and Tenison homered in the seventh
• The runs were needed as Aurora scored the final five runs, drawing within 8-6 in the ninth

GAME ONE LEADERS

Benedictine finished with 12 hits in the opener
• Tenison notched three hits while driving home four
• Turelli knocked in three
• Eight players logged hits for Benedictine
• Justin Sosa, the conference leader in ERA, threw eight innings to win his fourth of the year
• Tenison came in to record a strikeout in the ninth for his third save

GAME TWO DETAILS

Aurora grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third of the second contest on an unearned run, their first lead of the doubleheader
• Benedictine evened the game in the fourth when Cole Wilson singled home Castillo
• Benedictine broke the game open with a six-spot in the fifth, all six runs scored with two outs
• Kevin Bushnell put Benedictine ahead with one swing, launching a two-run moonshot to left for his seventh homer of the year
• An error kept the inning alive as a pair of runs scored on errors to make the score 5-1
• Kyle Williams doubled home two to make the score 7-1
• The lead grew to 8-1 on a no-doubt homer from Castillo in the seventh
• Aurora hit a three-run homer in the eighth but could pull no closer

GAME TWO LEADERS
•
Benedictine posted five extra-base hits among the nine in the contest
• Castillo doubled twice and homered
• Bushnell also notched two hits
• Robbie Dudzinski improved to 4-1 on the year by working six innings
• Simon Herold tossed the final three frames to pick up his third save
