LISLE, IL - Simon Herold struck out 11 in his first start of the year, but the Benedictine University baseball team lost for the first time this season at home, falling to #13 North Central to break a nine-game win streak.

• The matchup between two of the top teams in Region VIII got off to an interesting start as both teams plated unearned runs in the first
• North Central took advantage of two physical errors and a mental error to lead 1-0 in the first but Benedictine responded as a result of two North Central errors to tie the game in the bottom of the inning
• Benedictine took their lone lead in the bottom of the second
• Jack Carlson opened with a single and
Anthony Lenza followed with a bunt single
• Sam Tickel put down a sacrifice bunt and
Ryan Doubek put Benedictine ahead with a sacrifice fly
• North Central was able to tie the game in the fourth inning, stopping a stretch from the Benedictine pitching staff of 37 innings without allowing an earned run
• The visitors scored four in the seventh against the bullpen and added a single run in the ninth
• Tickel was able to score on a wild pitch in the ninth to account for the final
STAT LEADERS
• Herold was in cruise control during his first start of the year, striking out 11 in under 90 pitches over six innings of work
• Herold struck out at least one batter in every inning and fanned the side in the first
