The Benedictine University men's basketball team traveled to Wisconsin to open the conference season against the preseason favorites from Wisconsin Lutheran and suffered a 78-66 defeat in a hotly contested affair.
Benedictine was able to start hot, building a double-digit lead in the first half on more than one occasion. Wisconsin Lutheran came back to lead late but Benedictine held a 31-30 halftime lead. The shots just weren't falling in the second half and Wisconsin Lutheran had an answer for every Benedictine run.
Benedictine shot 45.8 percent for the game but were just 2-of-16 from three-point range.
Trevor Montiel logged a double-double with 20 points, a game high, and 11 rebounds.
Cullen Cosme finished with 12 points and seven rebounds while
Tanner Resch picked up 10.
Benedictine (3-2, 0-1 NACC) will play an exhibition on Saturday at UW-Parkside, an opponent from NCAA Division II.
