The Benedictine University football team got off to a strong start and did not look back, ending the campaign with a 49-14 road win over Concordia Chicago.
It took just over a minute for Benedictine to grab the lead. Dino Stephens escaped for a 66-yard touchdown grab from
Evan Wydajewski, the first of many big plays in the game. Forcing a three-and-out, Benedictine took advantage of a short field to extend the lead to 14-0 when Jason Moore reeled in an 11-yard touchdown pass. Following another three-and-out,
Alex Siebens broke away for a 79-yard touchdown to make the score 21-0 with over five minutes remaining in the opening quarter.
The success continued into the second quarter when Benedictine took advantage of a missed field goal to strike and lead 28-0 when
Cooper Simmons-Little hit
Alexander Corbett for a 20-yard touchdown. Corbett returned a punt 45 yards for a touchdown to push the lead to 35-0. The final points of the half came on an 18-yard run from Stephens as Benedictine led 42-0 at halftime. Simmons-Little found
DJ McIntosh for a 10-yard score late in the third to finish the scoring for Benedictine, who led 49-0.
Benedictine racked up 488 yards of offense with 219 on the ground and 269 through the air. Wydajewski threw for 207 yards and three touchdowns on only four completions. Stephens accumulated 60 yards on the ground and 82 on three receptions to go with a pair of touchdowns. Seven different players caught a pass in the win.
Brian Pritt recorded three sacks for the defense.
Tyler Walker was the leading tackler with eight stops.
Benedictine concluded the season with a 5-5 record and a 3-5 tally in the NACC.
