The Benedictine University baseball team played for the first time since returning from Florida and despite a rally was unable to dig out of an early hole in an 8-6 loss to UW-Oshkosh at Millikin, the first defeat of the season.
Oshkosh built a 6-1 lead, breaking open a 1-1 contest in the top of the third with a pair of runs. Benedictine responded in the bottom of the third with three runs to draw within 6-4.
Brennan Fisher singled home two while
DeShawnte Carraway added an RBI single.
Kevin Bushnell brought Benedictine within 6-5 in the seventh with an RBI single. Benedictine had the tying run at the plate in the ninth after Fisher doubled home a run but could not draw even.
Benedictine finished with seven hits and seven walks but stranded eight on the bases. Fisher finished with three hits, three RBIs and a pair of doubles while
Ryan Doubek and
Logan Gregorio both kept long on-base streaks alive.
JT Adams suffered the loss on the mound, tossing four innings.
Dean Rokkas and
Dan Dombrowski both worked a pair of innings with
Nolan Fasel finishing out the contest.
Benedictine (9-1) meets UW-Oshkosh again on Sunday before facing the hosts from Millikin.
