The Benedictine University baseball team scored the first seven runs on the way to a 7-4 win over St. John Fisher, a program that won 32 games last year and reached a regional final, moving to 4-0 on the year and 2-0 in Florida.
Andrew Kurcz set the tone on the hill, allowing just two hits in seven blank innings. Kurcz struck out six to earn the win. The offense started in the third inning with a pair of runs.
Brennan Fisher notched a two-run single as part of a three-run fifth and
Jake Petak coaxed a bases loaded walk. Benedictine added two more in the sixth but needed to hold on as St. John Fisher plated four runs in the top of the eighth.
Seven different individuals posted hits for Benedictine, who also stole four bases. Fisher and
Ryan Doubek both drove home two.
Logan Gregorio doubled and scored twice.
Benedictine (4-0) plays Marymount on Wednesday at 12:15pm Eastern.
