The Benedictine University baseball team kicked off their spring break trip to Florida by suffering a 6-5 loss in 10 innings to the University of Dubuque, one of several teams from the American Rivers Conference that will face Benedictine over the next week.
Benedictine used a four-run fifth to build a lead that held until the eighth. The lead marked the first of the game for Benedictine. Tied 2-2 entering the frame,
Kyle Campbell tallied a two-run single to put Benedictine ahead.
Nic Castrovillari added an RBI single while another run scored on a wild pitch as Benedictine led 5-2. Dubuque pulled within 5-3 in the sixth and used a two-run double to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. The winning run crossed on a two-out error in the bottom of the 10th.
Benedictine struck out 15 times in the game while the pitching staff tallied nine strikeouts. Making his second start of the season,
CJ Jensik spun a quality outing, allowing three runs over six innings with two walks and five strikeouts in a no-decision.
Jackson Bahn made his 2025 debut with a scoreless seventh in relief, fanning a pair.
Austin Pizer suffered the loss, tossing the final 2.2 of the game.
Castrovillari and
Zach Fell both notched a pair of hits as the top four in the lineup totaled all six of the team's total hits.
Benedictine (1-2) faces Wartburg, another ARC team, on Monday.
