The Benedictine University softball team opened conference play by trading shutouts with visiting Lakeland on Friday.

Mckenzie Johnson, who struck out 10 in a complete game shutout.
Victoria Duszynski knocked home the first run and Johnson helped her cause with a sacrifice fly.
Haley Barnes and
Morgan Bruno notched a pair of hits as Benedictine totaled nine.
LAKELAND 4, BENEDICTINE 0
Lakeland broke up a scoreless tie with a single run in the fifth and added three in the seventh to account for the final.
Jasmine Lozano tossed a complete game but suffered the loss. Benedictine managed only six hits, two of which came from
Jenna Bartke.
Benedictine (11-5, 1-1) will play a non-conference doubleheader at Kalamazoo on Thursday.
