Softball Falls in Conference Championship

The Benedictine University softball team sent the NACC Tournament to a deciding winner-take-all game, but ultimately fell to Concordia Wisconsin to end the season on Sunday afternoon.

Benedictine won the opener 5-1. The team scored twice in the top of the third on a two-run single from Haley Barnes. The lead grew to 3-0 in the fifth when Breanne Deutscher tallied an RBI single. A homer drew Concordia Wisconsin within 3-1 in the sixth before Benedictine put the game away with two in the seventh on an error and a Morgan Bruno sacrifice bunt.

Deutscher and Lauren Bogard posted two hits in the win. Mckenzie Johnson threw a complete game to win her 18th of the year.

Benedictine led 1-0 in the deciding game behind a run in the third on a Deutscher double, but Concordia Wisconsin used a three-run homer in the fourth to take the lead for good and added on to secure the conference title. Deutscher finished with two hits in the season ending defeat.

Benedictine closed the year with a record of 31-15.
