Softball Earns Pair of Wins in Florida

The Benedictine softball team continued its strong start to the season with a pair of wins on Wednesday in Kissimmee, Florida defeating Wheaton 11-1 in five innings before edging Catholic 8-7 in extra innings to improve to 7-1 on the year.

FINAL SCORE
Benedictine 11, Wheaton (Mass.) 1 (5 innings)

THE DETAILS
-Benedictine broke open a scoreless game with seven runs in the second inning
-Jenna Bartke brought home the first run with a sacrifice fly to score Jasmine Lozano
-Morgan Bruno followed with a two-run single before Alyssa Perkins added two more with a single
-Taylor Oppenhuis capped the inning with a two-run double to push the lead to 7-0
-Wheaton scored its lone run in the third on a ground out
-Benedictine responded with four more runs in the bottom of the innings
-Haley Barnes delivered a two-run single before Autumn Adamik and Oppenhuis each added RBI singles to extend the lead to 11-1

-Morgan Bruno recorded three hits and two RBIs
-Taylor Oppenhuis finished with two hits and three RBIs
-Alyssa Perkins and Haley Barnes each drove in two runs
-Mckenzie Johnson allowed three hits and one run while striking out five over five innings

THE DETAILS
-Catholic scored first in the opening inning with an RBI walk
-Benedictine tied the game in the third when Morgan Bruno singled to score Jenna Bartke
-The Eagles erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to take control 
-Haley Barnes delivered a two-run double and Jasmine Lozano added an RBI on a sacrifice bunt
-Autumn Adamik later stole home before Victoria Duszynski singled in another run
-Lauryn Olson reached on an error to extend the lead to 7-1
-Catholic rallied with five runs in the seventh inning to tie the game and force extra innings
-Benedictine answered in the eighth when Duszynski singled to right field to score Alyssa Perkins
-The Eagles held Catholic scoreless in the bottom of the inning to secure the win

STAT LEADERS
-Victoria Duszynski led the offense with three hits and two RBIs
-Haley Barnes added a double and two RBIs
