Softball Goes 1-1 in Conference Opener

The Benedictine softball team split its NACC opening doubleheader against Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday at Heidkamp Field. The Eagles dropped game one 6-4 before bouncing back with a dominant 10-1 win in game two. 

FINAL SCORE
Wisconsin Lutheran 6, Benedictine 4

THE DETAILS
-Benedictine broke through in the fourth inning with three runs, highlighted by RBI singles from Mia Giammarese and Morgan Bruno
-Haley Barnes added a solo home run in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-0
-Wisconsin Lutheran responded with a three-run double in the sixth to cut the deficit to one
-The Warriors completed the comeback in the seventh, scoring three runs to take the lead
-Benedictine was unable to respond in the final inning

STAT LEADERS
-Morgan Bruno recorded two hits and an RBI
-Haley Barnes added a home run and one RBI
-Mckenzie Johnson struck out 12

THE DETAILS
-Benedictine opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI from Taylor Oppenhuis
-After Wisconsin Lutheran tied the game in the second, the Eagles erupted for seven runs in the inning
-Lauryn Olson sparked the rally with a two-run home run
-Benedictine added two more runs in the third to extend the lead to 10-1
-The Eagles totaled 15 hits in the run-rule victory

-Lauren Bogard led the offense with three hits, including a triple, and an RBI
-Haley Barnes recorded two hits and drove in two runs
-Mia Giammarese added two hits and two RBIs
-Lauryn Olson finished with a home run and two RBIs
