Baseball Kicks Off Spring Trip with Win

The Benedictine University baseball team opened their annual Florida Spring Break trip with a win over Husson on Sunday.

THE DETAILS
- Benedictine did not trail in the game, scoring in the second, third and fourth innings
- With two outs in the second Preston Popvich singled and stole second before opening the scoring when Cole Bush singled him home
- Spencer Geake tripled hom Nic Castrovillari in the third and crossed the plate himself on a Mike Budorick single, pushing the lead to 3-0
- Popovich opened the fourth with a single and scored when Matt Santarelli reached base on an error
- Husson scored a pair of runs in the fifth to draw within 5-3 but Benedictine broke the game open with a five-run seventh
- Castrovillari posted an RBI single in the frame with Budorick singling home two
- Two more runs scored on an error during a double steal as the lead grew to 9-2

STAT LEADERS
- Benedictine finished with 13 hits in the win
- Conner Kendall worked 5.1 innings to nab the win on the mound, striking out eight
- Connor Kehoe notched 2.2 scoreless frames with five strikeouts and Jack Hayden finished out the victory
- Five players finished with two hits as Castrovillari, Geake, Budorick, Popovich and Hank Friedrich tallied two apiece
