Softball Secures Doubleheader Wins Over Wheaton

The softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Wheaton on Tuesday, using a late-game rally to take game one before breaking things open early in game two.

Benedictine 6, Wheaton 3

THE DETAILS
-Benedictine struck first in the opening inning on an RBI single from Alyssa Perkins
-Wheaton answered and took a 3-1 lead with runs in the second and fourth innings
-The Eagles responded in the fifth, tying the game on an RBI ground-out from Perkins before a two-run single from Taylor Oppenhuis gave Benedictine the lead
-Benedictine added two more runs in the sixth to extend the advantage
-Wheaton was unable to rally as the Eagles closed out the win

STAT LEADERS
-Taylor Oppenhuis recorded two hits and two RBIs
-Morgan Bruno tallied two hits and scored twice
-Alyssa Perkins drove in two runs
-Mckenzie Johnson allowed three runs while striking out three

THE DETAILS
-Benedictine scored three runs in the first inning behind RBI hits from Perkins and Oppenhuis, along with a sacrifice bunt from Jasmine Lozano
-The Eagles added two more in the second, highlighted by an RBI triple from Lauren Bogard and a sacrifice fly from Haley Barnes
-Wheaton got on the board in the third, but Benedictine answered with a five-run inning to break the game open
-The Eagles capitalized on timely hitting and aggressive base-running to extend the lead to 10-1
-Benedictine held Wheaton scoreless the rest of the way to secure the win

STAT LEADERS
-Lauren Bogard went 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs, and two runs scored
-Morgan Bruno added two hits and an RBI
-Alyssa Perkins and Taylor Oppenhuis each drove in a run
-Morgan Magnabosco allowed just one run on five hits over five innings
