Baseball Walks Off to Sweep

The Benedictine University baseball team pulled their conference record to .500 by notching a pair of one-run wins over Dominican on Wednesday.

THE DETAILS
- Dominican scored three runs in the top of the second in the opener before Benedictine plated five in the bottom, taking advantage of two errors
- Hank Friedrich and Justin Nonnenmann both logged an RBI on a fielder's choice
- Mike Budorick stroked an RBI single and the other run crossed on a wild pitch
- Benedictine needed to hold on a Dominican rallied late but the bullpen did the job
- The second game saw Benedictine build an early 3-0 edge with two in the first and one in the second
- Budorick opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first and Nonnenmann singled home a run in the second
- A three-run homer tied the game in the fourth before Benedictine plated two in the fifth to lead 5-3
- Anthony Mitchell notched an RBI double and Preston Popovich an RBI single in the fifth
- Dominican was able to tie the game in the ninth but Spencer Geake tallied an RBI single with the bases loaded to win the game

STAT LEADERS
- Matthew Purta worked six innings to win the opener
- Antonino Ferrara tossed 1.1 innings with Connor Kehoe nailing down the save by working the final 1.2
- Matt Santarelli homered in the opener and logged three hits while Friedrich notched a pair
- Game two saw Luke Hickey start and toss five innings, striking out six
- Samuel Garland tossed two with Jack Hayden and Kehoe polishing off the win
- Budorick, Nic Castrovillari and Popovich all recorded two hits in the second game

UP NEXT
Benedictine (12-13, 6-6 NACC) is scheduled to play North Central in a non-conference contest Thursday night.
