Baseball Reaches Conference Tournament

It took until the final game of the regular season, but after a devastating loss the Benedictine University baseball team rebounded to reach the conference tournament with a split against Lakeland.

THE DETAILS
- Benedictine built an early edge in the opener with a run in the first and two in the second
- Hank Friedrich crossed the plate on the end of a double steal with Spencer Geake for the first run
- Tommy Jusi, Jr. singled home two in the second
- Leading 4-2, Benedictine plated three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to go up 8-2
- Justin Nonnenmann and Nic Castrovillari notched RBI singles with Cole Bush dropping a safety squeeze in the seventh
- Lakeland scored one in the eighth, five in the ninth and one in the 10th to steal the opener
- Benedictine quickly erased the opening loss by scoring twice in the first and six times in the second to build an 8-0 edge in the second affair
- Mike Budorick doubled home the first run of the game as the flood gates opened early
- Seven runs crossed in the fourth inning to leave no doubt about the second contest
- Friedrich doubled home three with Budorick doubling home a pair in the seven-run frame

STAT LEADERS
- Geake, Nonnenmann, Preston Popovich and Castrovillari all produced two hits in the opener
- Bradeb Behrens allowed just one earned run in eight innings
- Conner Kendall logged six shutout innings in the second game
- Samuel Garland finished out the win
- Friedrich and Budorick notched three hits in the second contest
- Benedictine finished with 16 hits in the victory
- Jusi, Jr., Castrovillari and Geake collected two hits each

UP NEXT
Benedictine (16-24, 10-14 NACC) will host the conference tournament next week and play in a single elimination game against Concordia Wisconsin at 3:00pm on Wednesday afternoon.
