Softball Closes Regular Season With Two Wins Over Lakeland

The Benedictine softball team closed out the regular season with a doubleheader sweep over Lakeland, winning game one 5-1 and game two 7-5.

THE DETAILS
-Benedictine broke through in the second inning of game one, scoring three runs behind a sacrifice fly from Jasmine Lozano and RBI singles from Jenna Bartke and Morgan Bruno
-Lakeland plated a run in the fifth but the Eagles responded with two runs on an Alyssa Perkins double
-Mckenzie Johnson was strong in the circle, allowing just one run while striking out nine in a complete-game effort
-In game two, Benedictine struck first on an RBI double from Haley Barnes in the opening inning
-Lakeland answered with two runs in the second before Barnes delivered a two-run home run in the third to regain the lead
-The Eagles added three runs in the fifth behind RBI hits from Perkins and Bartke along with a sacrifice fly from Mia Giammarese
-Barnes added another RBI double in the sixth to extend the lead
-Lakeland made a late push with three runs in the seventh but Benedictine held on to secure the win

STAT LEADERS
-Mckenzie Johnson earned the game one win with nine strikeouts in a complete game
-Haley Barnes led the offense in game two with three hits, a home run, and four RBIs
-Jenna Bartke recorded three hits and an RBI in game two
-Benedictine totaled 18 hits across the two games
