Elizabeth Leone will serve as the Head Cheerleading Coach at Benedictine University beginning in 2014. She brings 22 years of experience as a cheerleader, collegiate coach, choreographer, stunt specialist, tumbling coach, tryout judge and competition judge that will surely enhance BenU’s cheer program.
Leone comes from Waubonsee Community College, where she started the program from scratch from 2010 and served as Head Coach for the next four and a half years. During this time, she lead the team to two collegiate competition championships: at the CSG College Nationals in Wisconsin Dells in January of 2011, and at the Xtreme Spirit Championship in Itasca, Illinois in April of 2014. The team also performed at numerous school functions, including the groundbreaking ceremony for the new field house and the Family Focus event and the High School Counselors Breakfast.
Prior to her time at Waubonsee, Leone coached at the College of DuPage where she spent five years as Head Coach and two years as an assistant. She has also coached all levels of cheerleading from pee-wee/pop warner to Level 5 All-Star teams, with experience at places such as Elite All-Stars, Glenbard West High School, eXtreme All-Starzz, Downers Grove Panthers, and Kaneland High School.
As an athlete, Elizabeth cheered for Westmont High School’s varsity team all four years, earning the role of captain her junior and senior year. She continued cheering at North Central College, where she was named her team’s MVP her freshman year. Also, her team took fourth place at NCA Nationals at the Mall of America in Minnesota in 1999.
Leone is a National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Bronze Level Certified Instructor and Coach and certified through the U.S. All-Star Federation (USASF) up to Level 6 for stunting, basket tosses and tumbling. She is a member of the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors (AACCA) and has First Aid and CPR Certification.
