A professional player, Cruz joins the Benedictine staff for 2019.
Cruz was drafted by the Charlotte Hounds of the MLL in the 2018 Supplemental Draft. Cruz was also that starting long-stick midfielder for the Puerto Rican national lacrosse team, helping lead the team to an eighth place finish at the world championships. Cruz also played for the Ohio Machine in 2016.
Cruz played collegiately at Belmont Abbey, earning a pair of All-America awards, the first All-American in program history. The 2015 Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year holds the Division II record for most caused turnovers in a season with 54. Cruz capped his career with 280 groundballs, 162 caused turnovers, 19 goals and five assists.
Cruz works for True Lacrosse as the co-director of Illinois State teams along with Chris Button and is also a national team coach in addition to coaching the Northwest Hawks.
