Ron Katarzynski brings over 30 years of coaching experience at various levels to this role as head coach at Benedictine for his first season in 2022.
Katarzynski comes from Concordia Chicago where he spent the 2022 season as head coach, coaching a pair of American Volleyball Coaches Association two All-Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference honorees. Prior to that, Katarzynski spent three seasons at Aurora University, where he served as the assistant coach for the men's volleyball program for three seasons. During his time with the Spartans, he helped the team to an overall record of 37-24, with the team improving their record each year since he joined the staff. The 2021 season, he coached an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region player as well as four All-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference honorees. During the 2019 season. The summer of 2022, Katarzynski coached the Great Lakes Region Boys National Select Team competing in Tulsa OK.
Before coaching at Aurora, Katarzynski was a head coach at Sports Performance Volleyball Club. Over his six years coaching in the boys program, he coached his team to an Elite Eight finish at AAU Nationals. He also coached the No. 1 team in the country in 2014 and the No. 25 team in the country in 2013. He spent an additional seven years at Sports Performance with the girls program. Combined, he has coached 9 teams to a medal during his tenure at the club. He also made stops at other volleyball clubs and high schools throughout the area over his 30 years of coaching, including St Pius, St John's, Side Out VBC, Avalanche VBC, West Chicago High School.
In addition to coaching, Katarzynski spent over 25 years in the bread business for either bakeries he owned or worked for throughout Chicago serving some of the best restaurants and retailers in the area.
He is the father of 5 girls, 4 of which played at the collegiate level. Married to his wife, Mary Lou for 34 years, he is a family man. He is a graduate of Lewis University and the Chicago Cooking and Hospitality Institute..
