Oliver Wiseman

Oliver Wiseman enters his second season as the head coach of the Benedictine women’s basketball team in 2022-23.

In his first season at the helm, the Eagles finished with a 17-10 record, including a 13-4 mark in NACC play. The 2021-22 season saw the program finish as one of the top teams in the NACC both offensively and defensively.  Offensively, the Eagles ranked second in points per game (69.4) and first in assists per game (17.2). Defensively, they were second in points allowed per game (49.4), first in three-point percentage defense (21.7%) and fist in blocks per game (6.9). Alex Fanning made First-Team All Conference and was named NACC Player of the Year. Joining Fanning to the All-NACC lists were Claire Gibler and Brilan McCory, who were named to the Second Team and Honorable Mention, respectively.  Off the court, the Eagles excelled in the classroom, finishing the year with a 3.6 Team GPA and saw 15 members receive NACC Scholar-Athlete recognition.

Wiseman arrived at Benedictine after serving as an assistant at NCAA Division II Lindenwood University for three seasons. While at Lindenwood, Wiseman helped the program to multiple WBCA Top 25 rankings while setting a program record for single-season wins.  The Lions also owned a Team GPA that ranked them in the top 10 nationally for Division II. The team also received a pair of at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament. While at Lindenwood, Wiseman primarily worked with the guards, and helped Lindsay Medlen receive All-GLVC honors in 2020. Wiseman also served as the recruiting coordinator and brought in classes that included two McDonald’s All-American nominees, an ESPN Top-100 prospect, an NJCAA 1st Team All-American, and 2021-22 All-American & GLVC Player of the Year, Julia Ruzevich.

Wiseman owns experience at the NCAA Division III level after assisting at Knox College from 2016-18. During his tenure, Knox appeared in the Midwest Conference Tournament for the first time in 21 years while recording the most wins since 1989-90 and collecting the most conference wins in program history. At Knox, Wiseman coached three All-Midwest Conference selections, and laded recruits from 10 different states.

Before Knox, Wiseman was an assistant at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. His duties included offensive play calling, recruiting, and team travel. Wiseman helped the Tritons earn a berth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament and coached two All-GLVC selections.

Prior to UMSL, Wiseman served a stint at another GLVC school, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. While with the Rangers, he was responsible for the entire offensive scheme and in-game play calling, as well as recruiting and individual skill development. The Rangers improved by 14 wins from the previous season, which included an increase in production in every offensive statistical category, en route to a 22-8 record and an at-large bid to the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

Off the floor, Wiseman served as a member of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee for the GLVC and was on the Athletics Council for Inclusive Excellence Taskforce at Lindenwood. While at Knox, he was a speaker for the Midwest Conference Female & Ethnic Minority Mentoring Program.

Wiseman played collegiately at Maryville University before serving as a student assistant coach. While playing for the Saints, he was an Academic All-Conference selection, led the team in grade point average, and served on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Wiseman earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology in 2012, and he graduated with his master's degree in sports psychology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2014.

Wiseman is a native of Houston, Texas.
